Explaining the
SOUL COACHING PROGRAM…
This is a powerful 6-week journey of exploration, inspiration, action, deep healing, and transformation. Think of it as "detox" for your mind, body, spirit, and heart designed to balance, connect, and invigorate your life.
The Soul Coaching Program starts with 28 days of intensive daily work which is divided into four one-week periods with each week dedicated to one of the four elements and the four corresponding aspects of self. The rest of the program involves the processing of the material and then fully integrating it into your daily life for lasting results.
Our weekly gatherings include two soul journeys (deep guided visualizations which work on a subconscious level), life strategizing, a hands-on creative or cathartic activity, intuitive exercises, discussion, and workshopping the past week's content.
Gathering 1 — Introduction to the Program
Week 1 - Air Week — we use the element of Air to work with our Intellectual Self — developing awareness, clearing mental and physical clutter, accessing your intuition, identifying your limiting beliefs, making empowering commitments, aligning your life with your core values, exploring your soul mission, creating breathing space in your life
Gathering 2 — Culmination of Air Week
Week 2 - Water Week — we use the properties of Water to explore our Emotional Self — deep healing with early wounds, exploring energy levels, assessing relationships, releasing victim-thinking, empowering life experiences, connecting with yourself as a child, being in gratitude, creating flow in your life
Gathering 3 — Culmination of Water Week
Week 3 - Fire Week — with the element of Fire we work with our Spiritual Self — active cathartic work around fears, taking action, embracing your "shadow self", unleashing your passion, being present, taking risks, awakening your creative spirit, exploring dying, and igniting your life
Gathering 4 — Culmination of Fire Week
Week 4 - Earth Week — using the element of Earth, we work with our Physical Self — connecting with, detoxing, and nurturing your body, inspiring your physical surroundings, healing around body image issues, visioning for your future, connecting with nature and awakening the natural forces within you
Gathering 5 — Culmination of Earth Week
Week 5 - Processing Week — a structured and guided revisiting any of the program you didn't feel "complete" with — preparing you for the program Quest.
Gathering 6 — Building Your Daily Soul Practice
Week 6 - Integration Week — exploring and establishing a daily routine that will help continue the positive effects of the program for the long-term.
Gathering 7 — The Quest
3 Levels of Commitment...
In the first intensive 28 days of the program, there are daily practical, fun, and transforming exercises that are divided into three levels that you can choose from according to your time availability each day:
Level 1: usually requires 15-30 minutes of your day
Level 2: (includes doing Level 1) usually takes 30 to 60 minutes of your day.
Level 3: (includes doing the Level 1 & 2) takes as long as it takes!
The Soul Coaching program can help you define your life purpose, release blockages that are keeping you stuck, connect to your intuitive self, declutter your life, reduce stress and anxiety, cultivate your creativity and joy, align your outer life with your inner yearnings, and increase the energy, clarity, love, confidence, peace, and fun in your daily life.
The Soul Coaching modality was created by Denise Linn — one of my cherished teachers!

It is tempting to sleepwalk thru life. To tell half truths, listen half-way, be half-asleep, WAKE UP!
- SARK
Precious Souls!
So, how much time would you say you spend in the present? Not obsessing about the past or planning and worrying about what's next, but being
right here, right now? Let's do a little test… Are you experiencing
anxiety in your life? Depression, guilt, or emptiness? Do you always feel like time is flying by too fast? Are you are constantly catching yourself mentally
"checking out" in the middle of conversations? Well, I hate to break it to you, but these are some serious symptoms of NOT being present, my friend.
Of course, you're certainly not alone… We have a society full of people who aren't actually
here, and that certainly hasn't been working out so well lately…just ask our planet.
The weird thing is that as children we start out so completely and delightfully
present, so how in the world do we end up turning into multi-tasking zombies? Well, kids...let me tell you the story of a gal named Kimberly's descent into the "un-present" and back.
I remember that intense "presence" as a child so well — everything was so
tangible. The joyful moments so joyful, the scary moments so scary, the boring moments…so endlessly boring. Somewhere along the way though I clued into the fact that if I could retreat from my body
and the present into my mind and its past and future, the scary stuff didn't seem so real
and it was also a nifty way to escape boredom! Then growing up, I took further steps out of the present in my efforts to fit into this fast-paced, results-oriented society
(sidebar: in some Eastern societies, they actually encourage and cultivate one's present nature from an early age…we missed out big-time!) I learned now to "multi-task" (AKA
not being present to any of the things I was doing at once) and how to go on auto-pilot in order to meet that deadline or "get through" sorrowful times or terrifying thoughts that I didn't actually have the time or courage to deal with (is any of this starting to sound familiar? ; ) I ended up spending almost my entire 20s ambitious, constantly on the go, driven by adrenaline, and always 10 steps ahead of my life. From the outside, my life looked glamorous and successful, but I was too busy looking at my next goal to actually enjoy any of my victories. Joy, love, and relaxation were things to be postponed until I had "made it".
Well, I remember vividly the day when I realized this approach was clearly not working out so well for me. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday in the autumn and I was meeting with a friend I adored in our favorite café for an afternoon of great conversation and relaxing company. But as I
sat watching my lovely friend chatting animatedly, this creepy sensation started sinking in that I
wasn't actually here. Sure, my body was on that chair drinking my frothy
mocha latte, going through the motions of talking, but the whole time I felt like I was floating above
everything -- just watching detached from above. All I could feel was anxiety as I tried to will myself into the moment and into enjoying what should have been a lovely afternoon. I suddenly realized with alarm...I'd hit the auto-pilot switch once too often. I'd practiced so hard at living in the future that I'd completely lost my ability to live in the
moment, even in the good times. The capper that day was the horrifying
thought: ‘What if I get to the end of my life and realize I hadn't been THERE for any of it?!'
Well, my presence trajectory took a real u-turn that day. I made a commitment to re-learn how to
be in my life and it's a commitment I return to over and over again even as I reach the end of my thirties. The road to presence was and continues to be a long and challenging one, but
so worth it. Yes, I often have to wade into the discomfort of confronting my sorrow, fear, or emptiness head-on (although shoving down present pain just to have it pop up again as free-floating anxiety isn't exactly a party either)
However, in exchange I've also regained access to the joy, love, connection, delight and
juiciness of living that one can only find in the moment. And really the moment is all any of us truly have…so don't you think it's time
for us to stop living anywhere but?
This month's Inspire-letter is full of ways to start practicing mindfulness (the Buddhist word for "being present") in bite-sized, manageable ways. I'm not going to lie…this can all be bloody hard work. If you've spent years of training to
not be present, you're going to have to be vigilant in continually
returning to the present.
But remember, my lovelies…there truly IS no time like the present...

INSPIRE AND ACTION CORNER:
Being Present

"What if the task is simply to unfold, to become who you already are in
your essential nature — gentle, compassionate, and capable of living fully and passionately present?"
-- Oriah Mountain Dreamer, "The Dance"
10 WAYS TODAY TO PRACTICE
BEING PRESENT:
-
When you go for your next drink of water, do it mindfully. Hold the glass of
water in both your hands until the water stills. Then slowly drink the water and
feel it as it travels down — envisioning the water filling your body with
sparkling aliveness.
-
The next time your animal companion tries to distract you with a cuddle or
ball…let them! While playing/purring try to throw yourself as
much into this delicious present as they are.
-
Take a yoga class — this moving meditation helps anchor you in your body,
which in turn works lovely in anchoring you in the moment.
-
Today when you interact with others, instead of talking immediately take a
moment to tune into that person's energy and truly listen to what they have to
say (and not just wait for an opportunity to jump in with your two cents…you know what I'm talking about!
; ). Ask them a question you've never asked them before and truly listen
to their answer.
-
Treat yourself to a pleasure you've been "saving" and give it your
singular focus (no multi-tasking!)
-
Whenever you find yourself feeling stress or anxiety today ask yourself "Am
I in grave danger right NOW?" Take a moment to sink into the truth and
experience of this very moment. Anxiety is usually only present if you're not.
Bringing your mind back from the past or future where it's built big scary
things reminds you that you're not actually in any mortal danger, your mind
has just tricked your body into feeling that you are. (Caveat: If you actually are
in mortal danger, you have my permission to feel a whackload of stress and RUN!)
-
Spend time with a small child in your life. While interacting with them tune
into their energy and try to embody it. Really imagine what it feels like to be that
present.
-
When you see the moon out tonight, stop and spend a few minutes just drinking it
in. Mmmmmm…moonbeams.
-
Set an hourly timer on your Iphone or Crackberry with a lovely bell ping and
when it goes off STOP, take a deep breath, and tune into the moment. Your
breath is one of your simplest and most effective tools for bringing you back
into your body and this present moment. Just EXHALE……
- Put on some music today and for a little while make it your sole focus —
no cleaning, walking, reading, etc. with the music just as
"background". However, singing at the top of your lungs along with
it or busting a move to said music is allowed and encouraged.

You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment."
-- Henry David Thoreau EXERCISE: Sitting Meditation
If you desire more presence and peace in your life, meditation is a key tool to practice
being rather than just thinking. If you've never done meditation before, start at 5 minutes a day and work yourself up to 20 minutes or half-an-hour. Sit with a straight back, but relaxed. Then, simply start paying attention to each out-breath with the intention of just releasing a little more deeply into the moment with each exhale.
Have an awareness of the environment you sit in and the body you breathe in — just don't attach to them. When thoughts try to distract you from the moment, be vigilant (but gentle) in noticing them before you get too caught up, then label them as "thinking" and release them. With every out-breath release thoughts and sensations.
Just remember, you are not approaching this meditation with the expectation to become all Zen or blissed out. The intention of meditation is to train yourself to come back to the very here and now.
This can feel uneasy and frustrating if you are out of practice with just being, but if you stick with it consistently meditation
will start yielding some amazing results. It's like what your parents told you about castor oil: tastes kind of yucky at first, but it's so GOOD for you! ; )
Here is an audio recording for you to download of me taking you through the nuts and bolts of a simple regular breathing meditation to help get you started.

FUN INJECTION:
Whose Birthday?
Part of the art of being present is not putting off celebrations. This bus-driver in Copenhagen had no idea that a large group of people had made plans to celebrate him on this particular birthday in grand style...
