Precious Souls!

As kids go back to school this September, I can’t help but look at what I feel drawn to tackle next in this school of life. It could be to focus on serenity…or abundance…or love!  In the next few days, I will go within to determine what my center is most calling out for and then set a very deliberate intention for cultivating that quality in my life in the season ahead.

Having intention us makes the difference between just reacting to your life or actually creating your life. Not having intention is like travelling without an ultimate destination – it can indeed be interesting (and sometimes valuable) to be tossed around for a bit with no direction, but eventually you can get very lost and end up wandering overwhelmed and unfulfilled.
So, as the air gets crisper, I’m going to invite you to make your intentions crisper.

Your intention for the Fall could be anything from standing in your power at work to finding that loving romantic partner to being of joyful service to a particular cause. Go to that inner core, though, to get a sense of what you are truly yearning for in your life right now and set an intention out of that place. Once you have decided on that intention, then the tricky part begins…

So, dear friends, for this month’s “Inspire-letter”, I'm pulling out the big guns for
activating and staying accountable to this very important intention that is calling you...

5 Steps to IGNITE YOUR INTENTIONS

1. Declare Your Intention  - Articulating your intention (ie. “My intention is to cultivate more serenity in my life” or “My intention is to launch a creative, fulfilling side business”) by writing it down and saying it out loud is a surprisingly powerful way to kick-start things. You can also add a whole ‘nother layer of accountability to your intention by sharing it with some of the key people in your life. While you’re at it, let these folks know how they might be able to support you in this intention (ie. encouraging emails, taking on some of your household obligations while you’re busy cultivating that intention, or even becoming your “intention buddy”). Bonus Actions: Make your intention your screensaver, post your intention on bright pieces of paper around your home, leave yourself a voicemail every day reminding yourself of your intention.

2. Energize Your Intention - Find ways TODAY to start generating the specific feelings and energy that you imagine would come from this intention coming to fruition. Think about it…if you’re putting a certain energy out there, certain people will be drawn to you, and with those people come certain opportunities that help make your intention a reality. So, if you’re looking for a loving relationship, for example, start cultivating a more generally loving energy around you right here and now... Put an “I love you” post-it note on your bathroom mirror to greet you in the morning, bring fresh luscious flowers into your home, or look into the eyes of and smile at everyone you pass today. Bonus Actions: Choose a theme song that reflects your intention and play it once a day (ie. If your intention is to get that promotion, play Snap’s “I’ve got the Power” and get shaking your powerful booty right into work!)

3. Vision Your Intention – Visualizing how your life could look with this intention realized serves as both a logistical and energetic blueprint for building this intention into your life. So, close your eyes, take some centering breaths, and then envision yourself in a situation that reflects the fruition of this intention. Make it as real as you can…Try to see in great detail what you look like and what your energy is like, the environment you’re in, the others around you and how you’re interacting with them, and most of all how it FEELS to have your intention come true.  Write down the details of this vision and read it over daily really trying to feel the scenario each time.

4. Bite-Sized Action Plan - Intention will go NOWHERE without action, so this is an imperative step. The trick though is to develop a plan for action that starts right here, right now (not next month or when you have enough money or have lost enough weight ; ) , but one that doesn’t scare and overwhelm you back into paralysis. I suggest making a master list of 15 micro-movements you can take toward your intention this month (ideally each could be completed in less than 30 minutes). If your intention is to launch a wildly creative business, some micro-movements might include connecting with a mentor who inspires you creatively, researching some cutting edge web marketing approaches, or holding a brain-storming session with some of the wildest people you know to name the company. After making the list, figure out how you will schedule these action steps (ie. one a day, two a week?) and put them into your calendar or daytimers. Bonus Action: Choose one habit to do daily that will help strengthen your intention. Ie. If your intention is for more health and vitality, your daily action could be stretching as soon as you get up each morning or eating two servings of raw vegetables each day.

5. Get Out of Your Own Way – If reading through the above steps has invoked all sorts of negative chatter as to why this isn’t going to work for you, it’s time to kick these limiting beliefs to the curb. Take a few minutes to write down all the fears and excuses that could keep your intention from being realized. Once you’ve filled the page with all those party-poopers, take in a deep breath, and start scribbling out each one of those limiting beliefs with all your might. As you black them out, feel their hold over you start to loosen. Really activate this exercise by playing some angry music, yelling out loud for these beliefs to "go to hell!", and then ripping up the page with all the gusto you can muster. Bonus Action: I find burning the remaining scraps of paper to a crisp ties up this little cathartic exercise very nicely. ; )  Btw, if your limiting beliefs are particularly loud and irritating, you may have to repeat this step on a regular basis.

"The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream... It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for."
- Benjamin Elijah Mays

Ok, Folks – sending you tonnes of love and support and you put the pedal to the metal and start living the life that is calling you this Fall!
